Following decisive finals wins at JJ Connors Oval last Saturday, both the Banjo Paterson Inn Bushpigs and Wildbrumby Schnapps Miss Piggies are bound for Bungendore Sports Hub on Saturday 8 August with premierships on the line.
Miss Piggies chase back-to-back glory in their 20th anniversary season
For the Wildbrumby Schnapps Miss Piggies, this Grand Final brings a familiar opponent and a storyline that could hardly have been scripted any better.
Twelve months ago, the Miss Piggies made history by defeating Cooma 31–24 to claim the club’s first women’s premiership. Now, on the same ground and against the same opponent, they have the chance to do it all again.
Cooma will arrive determined to turn the tables on last year’s result, while the Miss Piggies have back-to-back titles—and another piece of club history—squarely in their sights.
The occasion carries even greater significance in a season celebrating 20 years of the Miss Piggies. Few clubs could dream of a better way to mark two decades of women’s rugby in Jindabyne than by lifting the trophy for a second consecutive year.
And what a season it has been.
The Miss Piggies have powered through 2026 undefeated, producing emphatic scorelines including 88–0, 62–7 and 55–14. Their only result short of a victory was a 24–24 draw against Saturday’s Grand Final opponents.
The two sides have met twice this season, with Jindabyne edging a tight 20–15 contest in May before that hard-fought draw a fortnight later. No other side has come within a bull’s roar of the Miss Piggies. Cooma have done it twice.
That is what makes Saturday’s decider so compelling.
The Miss Piggies’ commanding 43–12 finals win over Easts showed they are peaking at exactly the right time. But they know better than anyone that Cooma will throw everything at them—just as they did in last year’s Grand Final.
Bushpigs chase a 14th premiership against a familiar foe
Standing between the Banjo Paterson Inn Bushpigs and a 14th first-grade premiership is an opponent every Jindabyne rugby player and supporter knows well: the Bungendore Mudchooks.
Four of Jindabyne’s 13 first-grade premierships have been won against Bungendore: a 21–17 nail-biter in 2008, a 40–34 shootout in 2015, a hard-fought 17–13 victory in 2022 and a commanding 42–25 win in 2024.
That 2024 triumph completed a golden run of three consecutive premierships from 2022 to 2024, with the Bushpigs finishing both the 2023 and 2024 campaigns undefeated.
This season, however, Bungendore are deserved favourites. The minor premiers have won three of the four meetings between the sides, including a 35–26 victory in the qualifying final just a fortnight ago.
Crucially, though, the Bushpigs have shown they can beat them. Jindabyne’s 31–24 victory at JJ Connors Oval on 11 July remains Bungendore’s most recent defeat.
The qualifying final loss sent the Bushpigs the long way to the decider, and they responded emphatically by overcoming local rivals Cooma 31–15 in last Saturday’s preliminary final.
The 2026 form line points to Bungendore. Grand Final history points the other way.
When a premiership has been on the line against this opponent, the Bushpigs have repeatedly stood tallest. On Saturday, they have the chance to do it once again.
