Two Jindabyne Piglets teams made the trip to Wagga Wagga last weekend to take part in the 2026 ACT and Southern NSW Rugby Super 7s, one of the biggest junior rugby events on the regional calendar.
A squad of Under 15s and Under 17s boys lined up against clubs from Southern Inland, the South Coast, the Monaro, the ACT and beyond across two days of fast, open sevens rugby at Conolly Park on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November. our numbers were boosted with a couple of players from Trinity College in Goulburn, who made great contributions on and off the field in an enjoyable weekend.
About the tournament
Hosted by the ACT & SNSW Brumbies in partnership with Wagga Wagga City Council, the Super 7s was held in Wagga for the sixth consecutive year and at Conolly Park for the second time, with some games played under lights. More than 40 boys’ and girls’ teams across Under 13s, Under 15s and Under 17s took part, with around 1,500 players, officials and spectators making the trip.
Under 15s: third in pool and a play-off win to finish
The Under 15s boys were drawn in Pool A alongside two Millthorpe sides, Temora Tuskers and the Phantoms, and gave a strong account of themselves.
The boys opened their campaign on Saturday with a 29–17 win over Temora Tuskers before going down 20–10 to Millthorpe Grey. A forfeit win over the Phantoms that evening set up a Sunday morning clash with pool leaders Millthorpe Blue, who proved too strong, winning 44–14.
That left Jindabyne third in Pool A on 10 competition points, with an even points difference (81 for, 81 against). The pool was decided by the finest of margins, with Jindabyne level on points with Temora and just one point behind Millthorpe Grey, while Millthorpe Blue went through unbeaten.
Finishing third earned the boys a play-off against Wagga Crows, third in Pool B, and they ended the weekend on a high with a 29–24 win.

Under 17s: a tough draw against strong opposition
The Under 17s boys faced a demanding Pool B featuring Millthorpe, Yabbies, Canberra Royals and the Junior Red Devils.
It proved a tough weekend on the scoreboard. Saturday brought losses to Yabbies White (43–7) and Canberra Royals (38–7), but the boys bounced back on Sunday morning to share the points with the Junior Red Devils in a 17-all draw. They closed out the tournament against pool winners Millthorpe, going down 41–0.
The boys finished fifth in Pool B on 2 competition points, level with the Red Devils. Millthorpe topped the pool without dropping a game, while Yabbies and the Royals were separated by a single point.
Under 17s results
- Jindabyne 7 – 43 Yabbies White (lost)
- Jindabyne 7 – 38 Canberra Royals (lost)
- Jindabyne 17 – 17 Junior Red Devils (draw)
- Jindabyne 0 – 41 Millthorpe (lost)
Results aside, the Super 7s is a valuable chance for our older juniors to test themselves against players they don’t often see during the season, and the experience will stand the boys in good stead heading into 2027.
