On Saturday 25 May Jindabyne Rugby Union Club celebrated 25 years of junior rugby in the town with its first-ever Junior Rugby Gala Day.
All ACTJRU clubs were invited to participate in what was otherwise a competition-wide bye weekend due to the Reconciliation Day long weekend in the ACT. 13 teams from six clubs gathered at JJ Connors Oval Jindabyne on a stunning Autumn day.
Many families from visiting clubs took advantage of the long-weekend, spending a night or two around the event to make the most of the town’s hospitality.
In addition to the on-field action, Jindabyne Club volunteers organised a host of games for junior players to participate in throughout the day, including a pass the ball comp, toss the pig challenge and the all-important tug of war that created a fun spectacle for teams after they’d just gone head to head in a game of rugby.
The event shared the true spirit of rugby, with teams combining and lending players to make up numbers throughout the day.
Thank you to the five clubs that supported the event by travelling to Jindabyne: Cooma, Easts, Uni-Norths, Vikings and Wests, as well as the ACT Rugby Referees Association for getting behind the event and ensuring all matches were officiated to the highest standard and in the right spirit.
Special thanks to The Rugby Club Foundation for making the event possible through its grants program.
With the success of the event, the participating clubs hope to make it an annual event.
If you wish to get involved and participate and support in some way if the event proceeds in 2025 and beyond, get in touch with Jindabyne Rugby Union Club.
